It’s Never too Late to Dream Again

We met Ms. Hawa in 2022, in Nyandehun, a small community in rural Sierra Leone. By the time we arrived in this community, the women were already eager to learn and grow because in this community, families were broken, women were deep in debt and for Ms. Hawa, it seemed too late ever dream of change. When you meet Ms. Hawa for the first time, you will instantly fall in love with her. She is witty, sharp and so insightful.

I am very happy now. Thank you so much.”

For years, Ms. Hawa spent her days doing mundane chores: cleaning, fetching water and cooking for her family. This was a time-consuming process that left her no chance to do anything for herself. Yet, when OneVillage Partners introduced the NOW: Improving Income Through Business Skills program, she knew it was time to start dreaming again.

In 2023, she joined the Nurturing Opportunities Program, initially to pass time, but as weeks became months,

“she beamed with joy and curiosity everytime she attended a lesson”

The best part is, this is just the beginning for Ms. Hawa. Elderly. Female. No Education. None of that matters.

All these barriers are trumped by Ms. Hawa’s determination and confidence. This is her time to choose herself and we are so proud of her. As she continues on her NOW journey, stay tuned as we continue to share her story and her lessons learned.

Over the years, you have supported OneVillage Partners in our journey to provide gender equity for women in rural Sierra Leone. We want to thank you for your continuous support. The NOW program is truly changing womens lives and giving them the opportunity to dream again.
