EXPLORE HISTORY & HERITAGE
Cruise upriver from the coastal capital in a motorboat to Bunce Island, a former slave fortress hidden inland from the Atlantic. Walk among its ruins and reflect on its powerful place in world history.
EXPERIENCE RURAL LIFE
Visit OVP partner communities and walk alongside community members as they go about daily life. Join families as they access clean water from community-built systems, visit farms to plant and tend crops, and prepare food while caring for children and managing household responsibilities.
CONNECT WITH THE MENDE PEOPLE
Spend the day immersed in your One Village Partners community. Visit the school, church, mosque, health clinic, blacksmith, and community meeting place. Hear about the community project and the impact it has had on residents’ lives. Observe a Nurturing Opportunities for Women gathering and hear what participants are learning.
REFLECT AT THE BEACH
End your trip at the beach where you can enjoy incredible fresh food and a stunning sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. Debrief and discuss your travel experiences with the group while contemplating the meaning of this journey.
